Applied Research

In addition to project-specific engineering studies, Coastal Frontiers personnel conduct applied research in the fields of coastal processes, coastal engineering, and Arctic engineering. Areas of focus have included sediment transport, wave-runup and overtopping, innovative slope protection systems, sea ice, ice gouging, and strudel scouring. In keeping with our engineering heritage, the focus of these studies has been not only to characterize the relevant physical processes, but also to develop a practical understanding that can be used to enhance design practices.
